Spotify: I DUO
Spotify: I DUO
Projects
leave a COMMENTWe said ‘I DUO’ to a collaboration with the wonderful people at Akcelo to create a charming film to launch Spotify’s new I DUO plan for couples living under one roof.
Each animated scene features a couple with their own unique illustration style and characteristics to help demonstrate Spotify’s shared account plan.
- Cameron Gough, Animation Director
“The whole project was required to be turned around at lightning speed - less than two weeks from concept to completion - which meant we had to jump straight in and find ways to be efficient without getting bogged down in technical details.”
Bendy Limbs Rig from EyeDesyn allowed us to quickly and easily see our primitive 3D characters animating without having to go through traditional bone rigging / weighting workflows. The characters designs were being tweaked on the fly so we utilised the C4D volume builder for more complex parts of the modelling. It meant we were able to easily tweak the shapes as we go and not have to lock into polygon modelling decisions or worry about UVs. This workflow made things feel more familiar to how we work in After Effects and much less intimidating to dive into and iterate quickly.
As we knew the schedule was a challenge we wanted to ensure we were working with a familiar cast of regular collaborators. Our old friend, and long time collaborator, Annika Fleur steered the Art Direction. She always nails colour choices with her keen eye for design as well as working with us early in the process to flesh out concepts that flow through into illustration. Sacha Bryning was an obvious choice for illustrating an Orvillle Peck & Grace Jones-esque couple riding a space horse through the galaxy. Local legend Simon Bronson took our basic 3D geometry and made it look pretty. Animation all rounder Toby Garrow worked with our lead director Cameron Gough to help bring some of the scenes to life while Cam brought it all together and keep everything running smooth.
Despite the tight turnaround the project was a massive success with the campaign extended to TV usage after it was initially intended just for pre-roll and social media.
